PDFs are structurally complex, and careless compression can quietly break forms, signatures, or unusual image formats. Sveltiq puts as much work into not breaking your file as it does into making it smaller.

Keeps the original structure, swaps only the images

Instead of rebuilding the whole PDF from scratch, Sveltiq keeps the original file structure and replaces only the image data — a conservative approach that is gentle on bookmarks, links and forms.

Signed and protected PDFs are never silently broken

Compressing a digitally signed PDF would invalidate the signature. When Sveltiq detects one, it returns the file untouched and tells you why. Passwords and editing restrictions are likewise never removed without permission.

Output is auto-checked — if in doubt, you get the original back

After compressing, Sveltiq renders the result on your device and checks it automatically. If visual damage is suspected, the compressed version is discarded and your original is returned as-is — a last line of defense against "smaller, but broken". How it differs from other PDF compressors

There are plenty of PDF compressors, but most upload your file to their servers for processing. Since every file costs them computing power, free tiers tend to come with limits like "a few files per day" or "up to a few MB" — plus sign-ups and upsells to paid plans.

PDF compression FAQ

Q. Will the text or layout change?
A. The tool only swaps the images inside your PDF for lighter versions, so text, fonts and layout are designed to stay exactly as they are. To be safe, check the result with the before/after view or "Open & check" before saving.
Q. How much does the image quality change?
A. Pick from three finishes — High quality, Balanced, Smallest — and the file is rebuilt instantly when you switch. Each file has a before/after comparison of the most affected image, so you can judge with your own eyes before saving.
Q. Can it compress password-protected PDFs?
A. No. Protections set by the author (encryption or restrictions on printing/copying/editing) are never removed without permission — the file is returned as-is with an explanation. Create an unprotected copy first and try again.
Q. What happens to digitally signed PDFs?
A. Compressing would invalidate the signature, so when one is detected the file is returned untouched with an explanation. Signatures are never silently broken.
Q. Does it work on scanned PDFs?
A. Yes. Scanned PDFs are mostly images, so they are a textbook case where compression helps a lot. Check the readability of the text in the before/after view.
Q. My PDF barely got smaller
A. If the images are already well optimized, there is little room to shrink safely. Sveltiq refuses to over-compress at the cost of quality and honestly returns the file nearly unchanged instead. Try the Smallest preset or reduce the image size in Custom.
Q. Is anything inside my file ever sent anywhere?
A. No — Sveltiq has no upload at all. Compression happens entirely inside your browser and files are never transmitted. You can confirm it yourself — it keeps working even with Wi-Fi turned off (more on security).
Q. What about PDFs over 200MB?
A. Use "Large files? Raise the limit" in the drop area to raise the per-file limit to up to 800MB, matching your PC's memory (the total stays 1GB).
