Three reasons PowerPoint files get heavy — and what Sveltiq does

Cause 1: pasted images & screenshots

This is the culprit in most cases. Phone photos and full-screen captures carry far more resolution than a slide ever shows. Sveltiq re-compresses each image to an optimal weight while keeping its display quality. The cover slide is excluded by default to protect the first impression.

Cause 2: embedded videos

A single video can add tens of megabytes. Sveltiq automatically detects files that contain videos and lets you know. Videos are kept by default; if you don't need them in the copy you're sending, remove them in one click — and you can switch back later. The original file on your computer is never changed either way.

Cause 3: bloat accumulated through reuse

Decks copied and re-copied over the years can accumulate image data you never see. Sveltiq scans every image in the file, so the accumulated weight gets slimmed down too, without changing how anything looks.

How it differs from other PowerPoint compressors

Most online compressors upload your file to their servers. Since every file costs them computing power, free tiers tend to come with usage and size limits, sign-ups, and upsells. Browser-based tools exist too, but most handle PowerPoint only, with smaller size limits.

PowerPoint compression FAQ

Q. Will animations or the layout break?
A. No — only the images inside your slides are swapped for lighter versions, so animations, text, shapes and fonts are designed to stay exactly as they are. To be safe, check the before/after view before saving.
Q. Is the cover slide compressed too?
A. By default the cover (first slide) is automatically excluded to protect the first impression. Untick the option in Custom settings to compress it as well.
Q. What happens to embedded videos?
A. Kept by default. When a file contains videos, a detection card appears — remove them in one click for a much smaller file, and switch back anytime. Your original file is never changed.
Q. Does it support the old .ppt format?
A. Only .pptx. Open the file in PowerPoint and use Save As to convert it first.
Q. Can it get my deck under the company email limit?
A. Most attachment limits are around 10-25MB. The Smallest preset compresses aggressively and many decks fit. Check the before/after view before saving.
Q. My file barely got smaller
A. If the images are already well optimized, there is little room to shrink safely. Sveltiq refuses to over-compress at the cost of quality and honestly returns the file nearly unchanged instead. Try the Smallest preset or reduce the image size in Custom.
Q. Is anything inside my file ever sent anywhere?
A. No — Sveltiq has no upload at all. Compression happens entirely inside your browser and files are never transmitted. You can confirm it yourself — it keeps working even with Wi-Fi turned off (more on security).
Q. What about files over 200MB?
A. Use "Large files? Raise the limit" in the drop area to raise the per-file limit to up to 800MB, matching your PC's memory (the total stays 1GB).
